Katy wanted Roadshow job

Remember a few weeks ago we asked you if new Antiques Roadshow presenter Fiona Bruce is perhaps just a little too saucy to be presenting such a fusty old Sunday teatime show?

Well, fans of the long-running TV heirloom valuation programme may well be counting their blessings today: it’s emerged that controversial knife-wielding, Sapphic-leaning ‘I Kissed A Girl’ singer Katy Perry was interested in the job too. “I wish they had asked me to host Antiques Roadshow when Michael Aspel left,” the American singer told The Sun. “It would be my dream job,”

“Any girl knows there is no better feeling than getting a great bargain. I love it! It’s the thrill, the chase and the chance to get something great,” continued Katy.

“When I was a kid my dad would wake me up every Saturday morning and we’d go out looking for stuff. Plus my mum was an antiques dealer in London, so I guess some of it trickled down to me.”

Still, perhaps a slot for Katy in the Sunday night TV schedules isn’t as outrageous as it first seems. It turns out her parents are pastors, and she spent her formative years belting out God-fearing gospel songs in their church.

Hmmm. Perhaps she could have Sally Magnusson’s job on Songs of Praise instead…
